The red brick building on the corner of Central and Chuch in Cortland was once home to the First Baptist Church of Cortland.

Built in the 1870s and then later rebuilt in the 1890s after a fire, the building has been a landmark of Church Street for almost 150 years.

When the congregation went in search of a new home in 2003, the building was purchased by McNeil Development Co. to preserve the historic architecture and the massive pipe organ that had echoed through its halls for decades.

The McNeil family made the building a home to numerous community ensembles, including the SUNY Cortland Community Orchestra and Choral Union, started hosting local and regional music events, and would go on to establish the Dan and Rose McNeil Foundation in 2019 to make 19 Church Street its permanent home as Rose Hall.

With the sole focus of supporting music in Cortland, the foundation believes in the power of music to unite us and is driven by a mission to champion and celebrate music and creativity for the benefit of the community.

Rose Hall now stands as the centerpiece for music in Cortland.

Rose Hall has featured a wide spectrum of musical styles with performances by blues legends such as Joe Louis Walker, international metal greats The Rods, chart-topping Canadian country stars the James Barker Band, and a growing roster of local and regional favorites such as Driftwood, Mike Powell, Loren Barrigar, Digger Jones, The Unknown Woodsmen, Chris Trapper, and Hayley Jane to name a few.

With equal dedication to the future of music, Rose Hall also hosts mentorship programs, workshops, and annual showcases for local youth talent and the Cortland High School Modern Band program.

Rose Hall is currently being renovated to expand programming and provide facilities for audio/visual recording studios, rehearsal rooms, and two performance spaces, the 500-capacity music hall on the 2nd floor and the 130-capacity listening room on the ground level.
